about
Speak Volumes weaves together fragments of spoken memories with archival tape recordings extracted from a pretend childhood radio show. The piece reflects on the nature of memory: slippery, fragmented, distorted, but at the same time an anchor by which one might shape a sense of identity. Passages from Lucretius’s _The Nature of Things_ are integrated into this revised and remastered version.
Many of the electronic sounds are now dated – sometimes intentionally so – extraneous 'qualities', including hiss and click, are deliberately woven into the fabric of the piece, as a way to reference the 'past' and to integrate ‘the archive’ into the 'contemporary' listening moment.
